These workers are trained to provide primary healthcare services and health education to their communities. They also play a significant role in increasing healthcare access to rural areas. In Nigeria, the “Saving One Million Lives” program deploys CHWs to remote communities to provide basic healthcare services to people who cannot access healthcare due to their location.

4. Health Education:

Health education is a vital tool for improving health outcomes in Africa. Educating people about the importance of preventive measures such as vaccination, personal hygiene, and good nutrition is crucial in reducing the prevalence of diseases that are common among the poor. For instance, the GAVI Alliance, a global vaccine alliance, has helped to increase access to vaccines in Africa by supporting vaccination programs and creating awareness about their importance.
